  • PASTOR 

    Bill Sperry

    Rev. Sperry began his ministry at East Woods in September of 2011. Bill previously served as Associate Pastor of College Ministry and Contemporary Worship at First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills from 2006 to 2011. He also served as the church's Director of Contemporary Worship between 2001 and 2006.

    A native of California's Bay Area, Bill graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Communications in 1996. After working in marketing and moving to Los Angeles in 1999, he joined the staff of First Presbyterian Church serving as the Director of High School Ministry.  Drawn by God's grace and feeling the call to ordained ministry, Bill attended Fuller Theological Seminary and earned his Master of Divinity degree in 2006. 


    In 2015, Bill commissioned into the US Navy Reserves as a Chaplain and continues to serve through the Northwest Regional Operation Center.  

    Rev. Sperry is married to Molly, a nursing instructor at the University of Portland, and they have two wonderful sons, Ben and Will.  Bill enjoys playing and listening to music, exploring the great outdoors, water and bike sports, hanging out with family, and savoring the great foods and drinks of the Pacific Northwest.

    Kevin Gates

    Kevin is a native of the Pacific Northwest and first began his work in ministry with youth in 1993 as an intern at Covenant Presbyterian Church while attending Multnomah University. He has since worked with youth and music ministries at numerous churches in both Oregon and Washington. After years of volunteer and intern positions in youth ministry, Kevin went to Warner Pacific University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Religion & Christian Ministries in 2010. He served as the Director of Youth Ministries at Walla Walla Presbyterian Church from 2011 to 2014 before beginning his M.Div program at San Francisco Theological Seminary in 2015.


    Kevin moved back to Portland, where he worked with youth and music leadership at Oak Hills Presbyterian Church before transitioning back into vocational ministry here at East Woods. Kevin was married January 1st 2021 and currently lives just a few block away from the East Woods campus with his wife, Tiffany, their children, Kali, Laura, & Matthew, a handful of cats, and a hyperactive dog. He enjoys watching and reading Sci-Fi, playing and listening to music (he plays guitar, bass, drums, and mandolin), cooking, and going to the beach.

    Cait Ridley

    Cait moved to Vancouver from Omaha, NE in August 2016 and has been loving it ever since! She currently works as an accounting assistant during the week, as well as being in school. She recently graduated from Clark College with her A.A. and is pursuing her B.A. in Strategic Communications at WSU-V. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and is excited to build her faith further and is glad to have found her new home church in the Northwest!

  • Worship Music Leader

    Lisa Pickering

    Lisa began her work as Interim Worship Music Leader in December, 2018. She has been a member of various worship music teams for the past 30 years, including Youth With a Mission in Los Angeles, Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver and East Woods.


    A Vancouver native, she studied Music Education at Warner Pacific University in Portland and Vanguard University of Southern California and is a certified Early Childhood Music and Movement Educator. After homeschooling her children, she began teaching piano, flute, voice and Kindermusik at Beacock Music in Vancouver in 2010. She continues to teach private piano, flute and voice lessons from her home studio.


    She is married to Kirk, who serves with the East Woods' Operations Commission. Between them they have two sons and two daughters, a wonderful daughter-in-law and five beautiful grandchildren. She enjoys playing and listening to music, reading, picnicking, golf, skiing, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
