Our Deacons

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.

Honor one another above yourselves.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep you spiritual fervor, service the Lord.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer.

Share with God’s people who are in need.

Practice hospitality.

-Romans 12:10-13

Traditionally, deacons are people persons.  Their hearts go out to those in distress: to members who have suffered loss; to neighbors in the hospital, to friends who have lost their jobs; to new parents who are confronted with the wonderful and challenging changes to life; to new members who need a word of welcome; to members who are shut-in and lonely; to people in the community who have lost their way and can no longer find God; to the economically oppressed and do not have adequate places to live or enough to eat; to anyone who needs to experience the love of Christ in concrete ways.

At East Woods you will form bonds of love with many people as you reach out to serve them in Christ’s name.  You are also the liaison between the individuals of this congregation and our Pastor.  Listen well and inform the Pastor of any specific information you can share without breaking confidentiality or bordering on gossip.Love the people . . . bring them the love and attention of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Serve the people…with energy, intelligence, imagination, compassion and love.

Sheldon Tyler

Deacon of the Month

Sheldon Tyler likes to say that his only claim to fame is the fact that he was born in Hollywood, CA.

He went to school in California and he is grateful to the US Army who gave him the opportunity to "visit" Viet Nam andGermany. Sheldon moved to Camas in 1973 and was an active member of St. John's Presbyterian Church for a number of years.

He and wife Jackie joined East Woods in 2007. Between them they have four children and seven grandchildren.

Sheldon keeps himself quite busy. He volunteers with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate; they advocate for children in foster care).

At East Woods he is a member of the Buildings & Ground team, the Worship Commission, and is our newly elected Clerk of Session.

He is also the Deacon to: Rich & Jan Adamson, Bob Clark, Ron Prestwood, Carol Domench, Gordon Wehner, Jim & Catherine Bangert, Jack & Marge Mace, Chuck Gehle, T. Wayne Hickey and Jack & Helen Dunn.

Prayer Chain

The Prayer Chain exists as a way of sharing prayer concerns and needs with our community of faith.  When you or someone you know is in the midst of personal/physical pain and struggle, it is helpful to know that there are people lifting your needs to God in prayer.
