Lent "Movie Series"

Wednesdays, 6:00-8:30 PM

Pastor Bill and Gwen Wagner will present another option for a Lenten study over four Wednesday nights between February 21 and March 21 – a Wednesday Night Movie Study Series.

Each time we gather, we’ll watch a movie in the sanctuary and then discuss the related Scriptures and themes as they apply to our lives.  The topics are broad, with the hope that there will be something of value for everyone.  You are welcome to join us for some or all of the movies.  Not all topics are family friendly, so we will note when the movie is appropriate for the entire family.

Films will begin at 6 p.m., and discussion will end by 8:30 p.m.

Trailers for our movie selections can be found online by following the web links below.

If you’re excited about the series, let Pastor Bill or Gwen Wagner know.  We won’t have a sign up for the movies, but we encourage you to come when you can.  If you’d like, feel free to bring a snack to eat during the movie.

This Lent, we hope to see you AT THE MOVIES!

  • The Heart of Man

    February 21

The Heart of Man is a cinematic retelling of the parable of the Prodigal Son, interwoven with true testimonials of personal and sexual brokenness. Narrative storytelling and documentary filmmaking are combined like never before to reveal the compassionate heart of God the Father for His sons and daughters, illuminating an age-old truth: shame is not a barrier to God's love, but a bridge to absolute transformation, victory, freedom, and hope.

    (Family Friendly)

Brandon Burlsworth is perhaps the greatest walk-on in the history of college football. Brandon had always dreamed of playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but was considered too short and too fat to play Division I. Undeterred, Brandon took a big risk and walked on in 1994. Written off by fellow teammates and coaches, Brandon displayed dogged determination in the face of staggering odds.

An extremely devoted Christian, Brandon never cursed or drank. He was genuinely humble and low-key. He worked harder than anybody, on and off the field, becoming the first Razorback to earn a Bachelor's and Master's degree while still playing. The overly-fat kid who was once an embarrassment to his teammates and an annoyance to his coaches, ended up becoming the most respected player in the history of the program, changing the lives of all he touched.

  • Wonder

    March 14

WONDER tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to discover their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.

  • Christ in YOU

    MArch 21

Our generation is being bombarded with sin, destruction and death. The news every day is filled with violence, abuse and murder. Hate seems prevalent; hopelessness and apathy, the norm. Many are fighting depression, sickness or poverty. Millions are deceived by lies that are coming at us from all directions. Many wonder if there is a God, after all, and others ask where He is or why He is silent in the midst of disaster. WE have the answer: it is Christ in Us. WE have the ability to change the world around us, to bring light into the darkness. But are WE? Are things really changing? Are cities transformed, are cultures shifting? Or are we holding back the answer this hurting world needs because of fear, mediocrity and distraction?

Thriving In Babylon

Bible Study

1st and 3rd Sundays, 9 AM

Thriving in Babylon is a 5 week study of the Book of Daniel.

These are confusing times for many Christians. Traditional biblical values are not only rejected; it seems as if they're attacked on every front. It's all happened at warp speed, leaving many of us spiritually and culturally disoriented or even fearful, frustrated, and angry.

How can we spiritually survive in an increasingly spiritually hostile environment? And is there any hope for the next generation? Each session also includes real-life stories of people struggling to thrive in an ever-increasing godless society.

Though Daniel lived thousands of years ago, he has much to teach us today.

Study is offered on Feb. 4, Feb. 18, Mar. 4, Mar. 18, April 1. 9:00 AM in the Maple Room, led by Cynthia Younger.

East Woods  Book Club

Meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 9:00 a.m.

Carol Domench will lead this new small group, meeting every second and fourth Sunday over the summer at 9:00 a.m. in the Willow Room.

This month's book is "The Year of Living Biblically", by A.J. Jacobs.

We hope to engage in thoughtful discussions that resonate with us individually and affirm our faith, find new ideas we many not have considered before, and welcome all perspectives.

If you enjoy reading, exploring a little more deeply into questions we face as Christians and having lively discussions, come join in.

For more information contact Carol Domench at 360-687-6911 or email her at kazooie@pacifier.com.
