Our Deacons

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.

Honor one another above yourselves.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep you spiritual fervor, service the Lord.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer.

Share with God’s people who are in need.

Practice hospitality.

Romans 12:10-13

Traditionally, deacons are people persons.

Their hearts go out to those in distress: to members who have suffered loss; to neighbors in the hospital, to friends who have lost their jobs; to new parents who are confronted with the wonderful and challenging changes to life; to new members who need a word of welcome; to members who are shut-in and lonely; to people in the community who have lost their way and can no longer find God; to the economically oppressed and do not have adequate places to live or enough to eat; to anyone who needs to experience the love of Christ in concrete ways.

At East Woods you will form bonds of love with many people as you reach out to serve them in Christ’s name.  You are also the liaison between the individuals of this congregation and our Pastor.  Listen well and inform the Pastor of any specific information you can share without breaking confidentiality or bordering on gossip.Love the people . . . bring them the love and attention of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Serve the people…with energy, intelligence, imagination, compassion and love.

Pat Norby

Deacon of the Month

Pat Norby joined East Woods in the fall of 2010, after attending East Woods for about a year and feeling that it was a place she belonged. Pat served as a deacon and elder at Columbia Presbyterian, but was not actively involved in a church for about the next twenty years. Retiring from Evergreen Schools in 2010 brought opportunities for reprioritizing her time, and renewing her relationship with God and church. Quilting, gardening, reading, walking and kayaking seem to make the days too short!

Pat's Mom, Jerry Sanford, joins her in worship each Sunday and thoroughly enjoys the fellowship with our church family. Pat has a very supportive partner, Emmett, a son and daughter-in-law Jay and Stacey, and daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Dan. She especially enjoys spending time with and watching the sports activities of grandchildren Kate and Jacob.

Pat is deacon to: Wayne and Kelli Denman, Tawnya Mahurin, Kathy & Tom Mulder, Tammy O'Neil, Shawn and Tami Perov, Kirk and Lisa Pickering, Bill Reeburgh, Anne and Dave Sauerbrey, and Richard and Sherrie Scoville.

Prayer Chain

The Prayer Chain exists as a way of sharing prayer concerns and needs with our community of faith.  When you or someone you know is in the midst of personal/physical pain and struggle, it is helpful to know that there are people lifting your needs to God in prayer.
